The oldest profession - Proprietary business or in employment

I came across this article in The Economist - Britain has a proposal to make buying sex liable to criminal charges if it subsequently emerges that the prostitute was controlled for another person’s gain. Read full report.

C’mon, give the guy a break…engaging an escort is fraught with so many risks already – from STD to harassment by thugs to embarrassment to fear of getting caught by your wife, getting secretly videotaped or the usual fear for all men during any act of copulation – inability to measure up or rise to the occassion…and now this!!

Also, I wonder if the Brits have really thought this through. Just how does a person, seeking gratification of the horizontal kind find out whether the professional before him is in employment or in proprietary business?

Does he just ask and expect an honest answer from a lady of the night. Is the defence “She lied your Lordship” going to hold up in court? Does he sign a certificate for himself and keeps it in his pocket before commencing the act…you know, the kind of certificate that says, “…above information is true to the best of my knowledge and belief”

I mean after negotiating the rates, does he ask…"ahem, you are doing this for yourself right…."
Lady: - “Hey you really think you are that hot!! I am doing it for the money”
Customer – “Yes offcourse, but what I really mean is….”
It can become a pretty long conversation in a business where time is money like little else.
In fact the comic situations can be numerous, how many can you think?
PS: I simplistically assumed the client to be a guy and the service provider to be a lady...we can of course consider the three combinations of the sexes separately.

  1. whoa! now the customers have to do a background check before engaging the service of an escort.

  3. Admittedly, the masterminds of the aforementioned legalese could be using the term sex in some other fashion :/

You and I may think that folks should not have to "compare notes" in order to discern whether the ensuing carnal bliss benefits the payee or someone else - it sure benefits the customer. But not these crackpots...

...I am waiting for the day when these same clowns start terming escort agencies as "sweatshops" ;)

New law of life

I have arrived at my new law of life . This is the longest break between two subsequent posts that I have had since I started this blog. Last week I told myself…I better write a post this week since I have made an unwritten rule that I shall be making one post a week. But hang on, I write blogs because its fun , but then when I start trying to live up to rules it suddenly makes it seem like a job . Ok, I know it is remotely possible there may be a couple of more who read this blog beside me (certainly not more than that)… and I can flatter myself into thinking that they will be, well disappointed! Hey come of it…they’ll survive! So I have now not written for two whole weeks. I am writing now because…well because I want to. Not because I feel I should. In other words, if I do not write now, it will seem like my job is to not write posts to my blog. So the rule going forward is, if you already have a job, stop doing everything else that feels like a job . (I am assuming you need that on...

The catholic spirit.

“In a bizarre act, two churches here have banned a group from conducting yoga classes, saying the ancient practice was allegedly "un-Christian". See full report. I could not agree more. The churches have got it right. Certainly yoga is un-Christian . It originates in India and is closely associated with a religion or rather a group of religions with similar origins collectively referred to as Hinduism (the name of the religion itself is one given by foreigners referring more to a geographical location than a philosophy). Christianity , unlike Hinduism is a missionary religion. Their missionaries have, over centuries, spread the word of the Lord far and wide and ofcourse have done a few mean things along the way. However, the contribution of Christianity to the progress of civilisation as we know it today is undeniable. Yet it is a little surprising that these churches should feel threatened by yoga, which, even if one links it to Hinduism is pretty harmless as Hinduism is ...

News Wrap

Here’s a quick wrap-up of some of the more interesting happenings in the recent past. The Chinese New Year is the Year of the Rat and Malaysian women developed a taste in a particular type of linen. "Malaysian Chinese women are snapping up red panties with mouse motifs for good luck as they prepare to usher in the Year of the Rat, a news report said on Sunday." Read full report . First things first, what’s with the Chinese new years……last year they had the year of the Pig, this year the year of the Rat!!! Are there no better animals? I mean a pig in any language would serve as a fairly all embracing abusive word, and rat….that certainly cannot be flattery whether you are a Chinese or an English man. Should we not expect a year of the Tiger or at least Dragon!! Ofcourse with my usual objectvity and broad-mindedness, I find nothing worng in Ganesha’s vahana (consort) ….now is that a rat or a mouse? And let’s move on to these Malaysian women. A mouse motif on your inner-ware?...
