“In a bizarre act, two churches here have banned a group from conducting yoga classes, saying the ancient practice was allegedly "un-Christian".See full report.
I could not agree more. The churches have got it right. Certainly yoga is un-Christian. It originates in India and is closely associated with a religion or rather a group of religions with similar origins collectively referred to as Hinduism (the name of the religion itself is one given by foreigners referring more to a geographical location than a philosophy).
Christianity, unlike Hinduism is a missionary religion. Their missionaries have, over centuries, spread the word of the Lord far and wide and ofcourse have done a few mean things along the way. However, the contribution of Christianity to the progress of civilisation as we know it today is undeniable. Yet it is a little surprising that these churches should feel threatened by yoga, which, even if one links it to Hinduism is pretty harmless as Hinduism is a non-missionary religion (A Hindu can only be born as one and not convert into one, barring the Aryasamaji’s).
In all honesty, Britain is Protestant (the Irish are Catholic and see how black and blue the British beat them up for decades). So I guess they may be excused for the lack of catholic spirit that such a ban exposes. But overall, this is again symptomatic of the polarisation of the world largely accelerated by, not 911 but by the series of US led events that followed 911.
Any world news quickly gets converted to an us-versus-them issue quickly. The two parties are mostly the white Christian European/American (a somewhat wider group than the WASP – White Anglo Saxon Protestant) the other being the Muslim Asian or just the Asian. (To the white westerner, all Indian sub-continental Asians are Pakis and all Pakis, as is "well known" are terrorists). This us-vs.-them paranoia manifests itself in so many ways. Be it the sudden incarceration of the Muslim doctors of Indian origin in Brisbane or the banning of yoga, the banning of turbans or the clamp down on Burqas in French class-rooms.

The Hyedrabad blasts are treated as just another piece of news in “their” part of the world, while each increasing US casualty in Iraq is treated as a catastrophe, not just by the US press but by the whole western media.
It does appear that the tirade being whipped up by the Osama Bin Ladens are becoming self-fulfilling. They keep telling the Muslim world that the West, especially America is against Islam. The West, deep in its mind accepts that the majority of the Islamic world is against it.

This apprehension drives their foreign policy, which is why even in a unipolar world the US keeps tying itself into knots to maintain a balance of power in the Middle-East and Asia.
It swears by democracy and props up the Saudis and the General in Pakistan. It propagates freedom and imposes sanctions on one of the most democratic countries in the middle-east – Iran. It would rather attack Iran and be done with it (not quite possible if you notice Iraq) but is dithering because of public opinion and the prohibitive cost (both life and resources) of fighting three wars.
More people hate America than did before 911. More suicide bombers are prepared to give-up their lives for Al Qaeeda than before 911. With the limelight being hogged by the middle- east, the human crisis and carnage going on in Sudan, Eritrea are being all but ignored.
Yes, Yoga is unchristian and so are so many other things going in the world. But then, since Yog is of non-White origin, its easy to go for it.
